A peritus remembers Vatican II

Dawn Eden writes: Today's Catholic World Report features my interview with Fr. Don, "A peritus remembers Vatican II." I am grateful to Fr. Don for sharing his recollections with me, and to Carl Olson at Catholic World Report for giving me the opportunity to share them with the world.

  1. Dear Fr. Dietz,

I just read your lovely interview. Thank you for your first-hand perspective of the Council.

I’m sorry to be making a request like this in a blog comment box, but I do quite bit of academic research on the revised Rite of Consecration to a Life of Virginity (which was called for in Sacrosanctum Concilium 80, and then actually promulgated in 1970). However, I have not been able to find much information on what the discussions were leading up to the decision to revise the Rite, or why the Council Fathers chose to extend it not only to cloistered nuns, but also to women “living in the world.” Would you have any memories as to how this development came about?

    Very many thanks!
